As I've complained in the FF on "You Only Live Twice" the recent Bonds don't spend enough time in one location; they just race all over the world. We've not enough "feel" for country Bond is in. I'm sure there are some beautiful areas of Russia that could have served the purpose of hiding a secret base. Maybe even a nod to Bond's search for SPECTRE's base using Little Nelly, could have worked? Again then there is no need for Jack Wade. Q would suffice. Getting Bond into the thick of the action much sooner could only benefit the movie. However, I think "GoldenEye"'s biggest problem is the ending. Moving to *another* location, another hi-tech facility is just boring, and drags the movie. Better to stay in Russia, I reckon, and have a deadly game of cat and mouse between Bond and Janus, with the mighty Red Army on Bond's trail. Jolly good stuff, this.
